Dear Tennis Enthusiast

For the first time since USTA Georgia began printing a yearbook some thirty years ago, we are proud to announce this year’s edition is going green! But what does that really mean? Everyone has their own definition or concept of the expression, ranging from a belief that mankind should lessen its impact on the environment, to it’s all a myth and a marketing ploy to make more money. One has only to look at the products on the shelves of most stores to see the word “green” on an ever increasing array of products.

Most of us probably learned in elementary school that our natural resources were not unlimited and that some day they would disappear. Regardless of our individual opinions about global warming, there is no denying that urban sprawl has resulted in the loss of thousands of trees right here in Georgia.

In 2008, the USTA Georgia Yearbook was printed and mailed to over 41,000 households. By going digital, over 2 million pieces of paper will not be printed. That means saving 240 trees! In addition to contributing to environmental conservation, USTA Georgia will reallocate thousands of dollars from previous years’ budgeted yearbook production, printing, and mailing costs and better utilize those dollars for programs and leagues to further develop and promote the growth of tennis throughout our state!

I hope you find this USTA Georgia digital yearbook to be very user-friendly, interactive and always up-to-date. In addition, it contains many features that will make this a “living” publication. You will be able to print individual pages, translate articles to foreign languages and you will notice that our advertisements will be changing throughout the year.

Please enjoy your 2009 USTA Georgia Yearbook. I wish you success on and off the court throughout the year!

Sincerely-

Elaine Hamilton
Executive Director, USTA Georgia
